Lesson
9 Energy, Electricity and Magnetism
- Electricity: Materials can receive electrical charges, for
example with static electricity. They can be charged positively or
negatively. Opposite charges attract each other.
Electrical currents are the transfer of an electrical charge
through objects that have opposite electrical charge. Electrical currents are
related to electrical energy.
- Materials and electrical currents: There are two types of materials, conductive
materials (That allows an electrical current to pass through it, cupper salt
water…) and Insulating materials ( don´t allow an electrical current to pass
through it, wood, plastic…)
-
Electrical circuits: are groups of elements that allow
an electrical current to flow:
They have different parts: Generators
(batteries, alternators, solar panels), Conducting cables, Switches and
Receptors (lightbulbs)
- Magnetism: some materials can attract or repel objects. This
property is called magnetism and the objects are called magnets. Opposite poles
attract and the same poles repel each other. Magnetic fields are the influence
magnets have on the space around them. We use magnetism to build compasses or
storing info.
